Good blog. Agree with most of it. However, please tell me you just didn't include Bryan Allen in the "talented veteran" category. The only way someone would take Allen off the Ducks' hands with that contract is if they were desperately trying to reach the salary floor, or if the Ducks were including a draft pick as compensation.

Vatanen has a one-way deal, so unless he's part of a trade for a high-value D-man, he makes the team - he's skating with Stoner in camp. Cogliano is not going anywhere, he is a core player on this group and just signed an under value contract to stay here. The Ducks don't trade players that fit that profile. Souray is going on LTIR when the season starts, so Ducks have $13-mil in cap space. Allen is the odd man out on D and is only around today to provide insurance in case someone gets hurt in camp.

Murray said this week he wants to get 15-20 games into the season to assess where this group is before he makes any more moves. He has cap room and the assets to make a big splash. Add Etem to the list of trade assets. Right now in camp, he is skating on a prospects line, not an NHL line.

9million in cap space means nothing when the owner doesn't spend to the cap.

Koivu and Selanne were the alternates the last several years. Perry would usually wear the A when Teemu sat last year. We think Perry and Beauche/Kesler will wears the A's this year.

The Ducks still need to get rid of a D-man. They have 8 signed, they aren't carrying that many on the roster. I could see 7, they did that last year for a while. Along with everyone else I think Allen is the odd man out. No clue as to what the hell to do with him though.

Absolutely, Selanne's comments have merit. I have been saying the same for two years. Selanne was consistently sent into the corners to muck for pucks…That is not his style and having him play that role was a waste of his talent and capabilities. During the brief periods where Selanne was allowed to play his style, he put up great numbers in the past few years. When grinding in the corners, his numbers were accordingly pale. Look no further than his performance in the Olympics last year. He was an absolute beast. He had plenty in the tank last year and in the playoffs, he just wasn't utilized properly and Bruce proved once again, he cannot translate regular season success to playoff success.

Bury him in Norfolk. It's not like the Ducks need the cap space, so who cares if that $2.6 mil gets applied to this season's cap. Who knows, maybe they'll get lucky and someone will pick him up off of waivers.
